Point Release 0.5.2

January 23rd, 2012

I'm working on updating the FAQ/Rule updates today, but basically there where a few fundamental things that have changed to address the following:

  1. Defensive strategy: There hasn't been much of one. Maxing warriors has yielded mostly a loss in population rather than a solid defensive line. Most players (including myself) tend to keep zero warriors. To balance this out I've implemented the following changes:
    • I've changed the scale used to calculate casualties to be 1/10 of what it used to be. For example, in an attack you may loose up to 10 warriors. This has been reduced to a max of just 1. Loosing 100 warriors yields a max loss of 10, and so on. This should keep casualties lighter and allow defense to play more into the game.
    • I've also changed the castle hit point scale again, to accommodate for the additional defense. I'll post the actual level to hit point ratios with the FAQ updates.
    • Hourly points are based off of Effective attack and Effective defense rather than Max Attack and Max Defense. End game scoring has not been changed and still uses Max Attack/Defense values.
  2. Starvation issues: There have been a few issues with starvation. One that it tended to be overly aggressive and two that there may be some game mechanic issues. To address these I've changed the following:
    • At most, starvation will kill off 10% of a population. I.e. If you have zero food to feed your 100 citizen population, only 10 people will die from starvation. Your citizens will still try to avoid full starvation by reducing the food consumption to 1 first (if its not already set). In both cases, you will still occur a full citizen reset to farmers.
    • I've rewritten the core Food Consumption code to be much more concise with additional logging. This should help diagnose any further issues.

I hope that all these changes will help cultivate a better game experience and keep the game fun and balanced. If you encounter issues or have questions, please feel free to use the contact us feature in the footer.
